Join us for an exploratory workshop using paired partner exercises to strengthen body and mind, and improve focus, balance and self-awareness. This workshop will be led by Scott Van Der Velde and Hung Le from the Michigan Daito Ryu Study Group at Yushinkan Dojo here in GR. They are passionate about bringing this art to a larger audience and to explore its impact on yoga and other practices.
Based on the 1200-year-old samurai martial art Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, which focuses on subtle manipulations of balance, you will be introduced to a mindset that can transform any practice (martial arts, yoga, or otherwise) and even impact how present you are in your own body and life.
Daito Ryu, once secret and passed from generation to generation through the Takeda clan, originated in India and moved through China before arriving in Japan. This workshop will be mindfulness based, rather than technique based, and will center around a six direction energy practice which will help you tune into your body, release tension and stress, and improve your balance in life.
Cost for this event is a suggested donation of $10. Dress comfortably. You do not need to come with a partner, we will be paired up and will be working with each other and with other students from the Dojo. We are limiting this first workshop to 10 people due to our space limitations.
